Highlights of Rajasthan and Central India

Delhi - Mandawa - Bikaner - Jaisalmer - Jodhpur - Ranakpur - Udaipur - - Jaipur - Agra- Orchha – Gwalior – Bhopal – Ujjain – Mandu - Indore - Delhi.

This trip highlights the best of Rajasthan driving across the Thar Desert landscape dotted with mini palaces, havelies and forts. You will stay in former palaces now converted into royal hotels. The tour culminates in Agra, the abode of the marble wonder-the Taj Mahal.

Day 01 Arrive Delhi

Transfer to your downtown hotel.

Day 02 Delhi

Full day city sightseeing tour to include Rashtrapati Bhawan, India Gate, Humayun’s Tomb, Bahai temple and Qutab Minar.

Post lunch; tour of Old Delhi to include Rajghat, Jama Masjid and a cycle rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk (the silver street).

Day 03 Delhi - Mandawa

Drive to Mandawa. Check into Castle Mandawa. Evening explore the various painted havelies and frescoes of the Shekhawati. Often called the open-air art gallery of Rajasthan, this region has many frescoes painted on cenotaphs, walls, forts and temples dating back to the 17th century. The themes encompass traditional mythology, local legend and folklore.

Day at leisure in Mandawa. Enjoy the Spa facilities.

Day 05 : Mandawa-Bikaner By Road 164 Kms/ 3 Hrs

After breakfast  drive to Bikaner arriving by lunch.. 500 years ago, a desert chieftain established his kingdom here, and over the centuries it has grown into an impressive town.  Its central fort offered the occupants safety from  invaders,  while inside,  the rulers designed some beautiful apartments that carried echoes of opulence and in rain starved Bikaner, the images of monsoon clouds. Nearby is Deshnoke, where in a marble fronted temple rats are offered sanctuary for they are considered sacred. Post lunch tour of Junagarh fort, which has several exquisite Palaces and is carved out of red sandstone. Also visit the Ganga garden jubilee museum.

Day 06 Bikaner-Jaisalmer By Road 333 Kms/ 6 Hrs

In the morning visit the camel breeding farm, the only of its kind in Asia and drive to Jaisalmer arriving by lunch. Jaisalmer is one of the last princely bastions in the region founded n what was the cross roads of lucrative trade routes,  this remote settlement came to be celebrated for the valour of its rulers and for the aesthetic sense represented by their palaces and havelies. The rich merchants engaged stone craftsmen who worked with great delicacy on the sandstone mansions they built, filling up facades with sculptural filigree, screen windows, delicate pavilions and beautiful balconies. Today these veritable art museums are still inhabited and their colorful celebrations and festivals have placed Jaisalmer firmly on the world tourism map. Arrive by evening.

Day 07 Jaisalmer

Morning Half day guided tour of the 12th and the 15th century Jain temples, the Patwon Ki Haveli and Salim Singh Haveli. Post lunch visit to Sam Sanddunes. Return back by late evening.

Day 08 Jaisalmer/Jodhpur : 308 Kms/ 6 Hrs

Among Rajasthan’s many princely settlements, Jodhpur is one of the most distinctive. This 500-year-old settlement was the headquarters of the Rathore Rajput’s celebrations for their tales of valour. Located in the Thar Desert, Jodhpur is known for its impressive fortified bastions, especially those of Mehrangarh, which have been witness to many           

battles and were associated closely with the history of the regions. Sightseeing of Jodhpur including Mehrangarh Fort.

Day 09 Jodhpur

Day at leisure.Visit Bishnoi Tribe Village. Also witness OPIUM Ceremony.

Day 10 Jodhpur / Udaipur via Ranakpur

Post Breakfast  continue to Udaipur. Enbroute visit Ranakpur Jain Temples. Arrive by late evening

Dinner and Overnight Udaipur.
 
Day 11 Udaipur

Morning city tour visiting City Palace on lake Pichola, nearby you visit the Jagdish temple followed by Sahelion-Ki-Bari, the "ladies garden" and the beautiful garden surrounding the Pratap Memorial overlooking Fateh sagar lake and museum of Folk art the Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandir. Evening boat ride in lake Pichola where you visit the Jag Mandir Island with the summer Palace.

Day 12 Udaipur

Day 13 Udaipur – Pushkar ( 4 Hrs 30 Mins)

Post breakfast drive to Pushkar. The holy town. An ideal place to relax and enjoy natural surroundings.

Day 15 Pushkar / Jaipur : 3 Hrs

Jaipur - the city capital in the tone of an autumnal. Sunset, literally blushed pink when Prince Albert, the consort of queen Victoria, stepped on its soil in 1833. Interspersing the plan of red and pink were white borders and motifs, painstakingly outlining the architectural highlights of Jaipur’s buildings. This is the only city in the world symbolizing the nine divisions of the universe through nine rectangular sectors subdividing it. The palaces and the forts of yesteryears that were witness to royal processions and splendor are now living monuments, accepted quite naturally into the lifestyles of the people of the Pink City.

Post lunch tour of the City Palace of Winds and the observatory.

Day 16 Jaipur

Morning tour of Amer fort on elephants back. You ride up on elephants to the former capital of the royals set to the backdrop of wooded hills. Afternoon visit to the local market and laso manufacturers of Textile/Carpets and Jewellery.

Day 17 Jaipur

Full day at Leisure to relax and enjoy.

Day 18 Jaipur – Ranthambore 3 Hrs

Ranthambore National Park is famous for Tiger reserve and other wild species and bird life. Post lunch Safari into the National Park.

Day 21 Ranthambore / Agra

After breakfast leave by car to Agra visiting enroute Fatehpur Sikri, which is probably the best preserved and most complete Mughal palace city of all. Built by Akbar around 1570 he used the highest quality craftsmen to construct the city, only to abandon it some years later, presumably because the water supply failed. Arrive Agra early in the afternoon and proceed to your hotel. Agra, situated on the banks of the Yamuna River, was, at the time of the Moghuls, in the 16th and 17th centuries, the capital of India. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 22 Agra

In the morning visit the immortal Taj Mahal, built by Shah Jehan, in memory of this wife Mumtaz Mahal. Also visit the fort and the tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah. Afternoon free to re visit the Taj or to explore the bazaars near the fort.

Day 23 Agra - Gwalior

Leave by car for Gwalior, established in the 8th century. It is noted for its large hill-top fort, which is one of the oldest in India. In the afternoon visit the fort, which contains the 15th century palace of Raja Mansingh and the Teli-ka-Mandira, and ancient temple. Gwalior is also and important center of Indian classical music and each December a great music festival is held here.

Relax and enjoy USHA KIRAN PALACE.

Day 25 Gwalior - Orchha

After and early breakfast leave for mediaeval Orchha, stopping enroute at Datia to view the beautiful sedentary hilltop Gobinda Palace. Then onto Orchha, on the banks of the Betwa River. This former capital of the Bundela Rajputs, has been left relatively undisturbed by time. Orchha is rich in mural art and architecture-visit the Jehangir Mahal, Raj Mahal and Sheesh Mahal.

Day 26 Orcha-Jhansi-Bhopal

Transfer from Orcha to Jhansi (15 kms) Railway Station in time for:Lv: Jhansi at 1035 hours by SHATABDI EXP. Ar: Bhopal at 1400 hoursMeeting and assistance upon arrival and transfer from Railway Station to HOTEL .Fullday excursion to Sanchi. Sanchi is an important centre of Buddhist pilgrimage. The great Stupa, built by King Ashoka (who abandoned war and embraced the Buddhist faith) , is a grey-brown hemisphere of massive proportions.

Day 27 Bhopal

Morning excursion to Bhimbetka Caves and Bhojpur temple.The village of Bhimbetka is surrounded by the northern range of Vindhya Mountains. .Afternoon, sightseeing tour of Bhopal. Visit Sadar Manzil, Taj-ul-Masjid, Secretariat, Vidhan Sabha, Fatehgarh Fort, Moti Masjid, etc.

Day 28 Bhopal-Ujjain

Drive from Bhopal to Ujjain (188 kms/4.5 hours).On arrival check-in at: HOTEL.Afternoon sightseeing tour of Ujjain, one of the greatest cities of ancient India, Ujjain links with its glorious past have endured into the present day, making it a city renowned still for its traditions of spiritually, learning and culture.

Day 29 Ujjain-Mandu

Drive from Ujjain to Mandu (120 kms/3 hours) via Dhar. On arrival check-in at: HOTEL.Afternoon sightseeing of Mandu.

Day 30 Mandu-Indore - Delhi

Drive from Mandu to Indore (97 kms/3 hours).On arrival check-in at: HOTEL.Afternoon, sightseeing tour of Indore. Tour Kanch Mandir, a Jain shrine with an interior of mother-of-pearl and glass beads. Visit Lalbagh Palace and New Palace. Later transfer to Airport to board flight for Delhi. Met and assist at the airport and transfer to Hotel. 9w33307 Dep 2000 Arr 2200 hrs.

Day 31 Delhi

Full day at leisure to relax and to do some last minute shopping. Evening Farewell dinner and transfer to board flight back home.
