Chasing tigers in Kipling Land

The Indian sub-continent is gloriously rich in its amazing variety of wildlife; from teeming insects colonies to majestic elephant herds that make India is a veritable animal lover’s paradise. India’s diverse wildlife base is the second largest in the world, and there are currently 80 National Parks and 441 Wildlife Sanctuaries established here. And the incredible feature of these amazing conservatories of exotic wildlife is that they are home to the largest number of tigers and the largest number of one-horned rhinoceros in the world, as well as the almost extinct Asiatic Lion, and a large percentage of the total elephant population! And these particular animal species are but a part of more than 500 species of mammals, over 2000 species of birds, over 500 species of reptiles and amphibians and around 30000 species of insects

Day 01: Arrive Delhi: Met and assist at the Airport and transfer to your downtown hotel. Welcome ceremony by girls dressed in traditional Indian costume.

Delhi, has a fascinating history and stimulating present. Check into the rooms. Rest and Relax. Later proceed for the combined sightseeing of Old and New Delhi to include drive past Rasphtrapati Bhavan (Presidential Palace), India Gate, and Qutab Minar. Post Lunch to include Rajghat, Jama Masjid and a rickshaw ride through Chandni Chowk ( the silver street ). Special welcome Dinner and drinks.

Overnight at Hotel Sofital or Vasant continental.

Day 02 : Delhi/ Jaipur : After, breakfast drive to Jaipur. Jaipur- the city capital in the autumnal sunset, literally blushed pink when Prince Albert , the consort of Queen Victoria visited in 1883. Interspersing the plan of red and pink were white borders and motiffs painstakingly outlining the architectural highlights of Jaipur’s buildings. This is the only city in the world symbolizing the nine divisions of the universe through nine rectangular sectors subdividing it. The palaces and forts of yesteryears that were witness to royal processions and splendor are now living monuments, accepted quite naturally into the lifestyles of the people of the Pink City.
Arrive Amer Fort and proceed for the hilltop fort on decorated Elephants. You ride up on elephants to the former capital of the royals set to the backdrop of wooded hills. Later drive to your hotel. Post lunch tour of the City palace, the Palace of Winds and the observatory.

Day 03: Jaipur/Ranthambore : After breakfast, drive to Ranthambore National Park. Situated in the Southwest rajas than, where the Vindhayas and the Aravalli hills meet, The river Chambal in the South and Banas in the north made of rocky plains, flat hilltops, gentle slopes and precipitous cliffs covered by dry deciduous forest binds the Ranthambore is virtually an island rich in flora and fauna. The Ranthambore Park boasts of animals like Tigers, Leopards, the elusive caracals, hyenas, sloth bears, wild bears etc in addition a rich bird life.
Evening at leisure to enjoy the surrounding area of your Resort.

Overnight at The Regency Resort or Tiger Den.

Day 04/ 05 : Ranthambore : Morning and Evening Safari of The Park in private open jeeps with park naturalist. Take a walk to the famous Ranthambore fort and visit sacred Ganesh temple.

Day 06: Ranthambore/Bharatpur: After breakfast, drive to Bharatpur (Ghana) Bird Sanctuary: Ghana is one of the best bird sanctuaries in India. Waterbeds assemble here during the months of July/August and breed till October. The Open bill Stork, Egret, Darter, White Ibis, Spoonbill and Heron are some of the birds found here. Also found are Chital, Black buck, Deer and other varieties of animals.

Spend half day in the park riding cycle rickshaws with park naturalist. Evening continue driving to Agra. Time permitted, stop for a brief tour of the deserted city, Fatehpur Sikri. Check into your hotel.

Agra, in terms of ambience is still associated with the Mughal period. With it’s laid back lifestyle and its immense wealth of architecture, handicrafts and jewellery, is amongst the most remarkable cities of the world. In the evening visit the mausoleum built by Shah Jehan for his beloved wife-Empress Mumtaz-The Taj Mahal. Also visit the fort on the sands of the river Yamuna. Various styles of architecture are evident within the fort.

Day 07 : Agra
This morning visit the Taj Mahal, which was built by Emperor Shah Jehan as a memorial to his queen, Mumtaz Mahal. Also visit the tomb of Itmad-ud-Daulah and Agra fort. Afternoon at leisure to explore the bazaars in the area to the west of the fort. Over night I hotel Clarks.

Day 8: Agra to Khajuraho
Morning flight to Khajuraho. On arrival transfer to your hotel. Later visit the magnificent cluster of richly decorated ancient temples-which probably form one of the best examples of Indian art.

Day 09: Khajuraho to Bandhavgarh
After breakfast drive to Bandhavgarh in the State of Madhya Pradesh. Bandhavgarh is also dominated by an ancient fort and is especially noted for Tiger, Gaur, Sloth Bear, Deer, Wild Boar and Antelope. Overnight in a very comfortable camp

Day 10: Bandhavgarh
Visit the reserve at dawn and dusk by jeep and elephant.

Day 11: Bandhavgarh/ Khana
Post breakfast, drive to Kahna National Park. Arrive by late lunch. Often described as India’s finest game sanctuary and a model for wildlife conservation, Kanha’s magnificient landscapes combines grassy meadows and flat-topped hills with meandering streams and lush deciduous forests. The setting for Rudyard Kipling’s famous Jungle Book, Kanha is today an important Project Tiger Reserve. The rich variety of wildlife found within this 1,954 – sq km park, once the exclusive hunting ground of British Viceroy’s includes deer, leopard, hyena, sloth bear, pythons and nearly 300 species of birds.

Day 12: Khana
Morning and evening visits to the park.

Day 13: Khana / Pench
Pench Tiger Reserve is India's 19th Project Tiger Park & is considered one of the countries finest new tiger reserves spread over 750 square kilometres and consisting of primarily teak forest. The population of game is also very high - it is considered to be the park with the highest density of prey ( Spotted Deer, Wild Boar, Sambar, Blue Bull and the Indian Bison). It is also home to a very healthy population of Tigers, Leopards, Wild Dogs, Jackal amongst other smaller predators. In fact there is a scientific study on the wild dogs being carried out by the Wild Life Institute of India.

This scenic reserve covered in prime teak forest and grassland nestles in the undulating terrain of the Satpura Range, drained by the Pench and Wainganga rivers. The wildlife found here includes gaur, sambar, chital, barking deer, nilgai, chowsingha, wild boar, jackal, wild dog, wolf, hyena, sloth bear, jungle cat, leopard and tiger apart from exciting small mammals like flying squirrels, palm and small civet, common and ruddy mongoose and over 200 species of birds that include malabar pied hornbills, painted storks, black-headed and black Ibis, Wooly-necked storks, barbets, leaf-birds, crested serpent eagles, oriental honey and white-eyed buzzards, grey-headed fish eagles, osprey, long-billed, white-rumped and red-headed vultures to name just a few.

Wild India Camps’ BAGH VAN LODGE, just 5 minutes from the entrance of the Reserve at Turia and 15 minutes from the turn-off on NH7 at Khawasa, is hidden away amongst the thickly wooded banks of a seasonal stream which, in the dry season serves as a pathway for tiger, leopard and other animals inhabiting the fringe of the forest.

Day 14: At Pench. Morning and evening safari or walk.

Day 15: Pench/ Nagpur
Post breakfast, drive to Nagpur, ( 92 km).
Transfer to airport in time to board flight to Delhi. Met and assist at Delhi airport. Lunch at local Restaurant and post lunch sightseeing of Delhi to include Qutab Minar, Lotus Temple, India Gate etc. enjoy farewell dinner. Later transfer to international airport to board flight back home.
